COVID Vaccinations Reduce Likelihood of Death in India to 0.4%, Says Study

Vaccines against COVID-19 can limit deaths and hospitalization among patients to a considerable extent, including among those infected by the highly transmissible Delta variant.

About 0.4% of the individuals died among those who contracted the infection after being vaccinated, reported a new study by researchers from the Indian Council of Medical Research. Around 10% needed hospital admission. Researchers assessed genome sequencing data of a total of 677 COVID patients and noted that the Delta variant was accountable for 86% of the fully-vaccinated cases. The study suggested that vaccination decreases the severity of disease, hospitalization as well as mortality. Overall, 592 individuals included in the study had received both vaccine doses while 85 had been administered only one dose… (NDTV, July 19, 2021)
