80% of new COVID cases in Spain among non-vaccinated

A majority of new COVID-19 infections in Spain over the past five weeks have been reported among non-vaccinated individuals, stated Health Minister Carolina Darias.

Only 5.5% of new cases within the period have been reported among fully vaccinated people, said Darias. Around 11.4% were partially vaccinated and 83.1% were unvaccinated. The number of new infections per day in the country has been on the rise since late June. The 14-day incidence rate per 100,000 residents increased to 622.4 on Tuesday. Spain has registered a little less than 4.2 million COVID-19 cases and 81,148 deaths thus far.

Around 51.3% of the country’s population is fully vaccinated and 62.1% is at least partially vaccinated… (Reuters, July 21, 2021)
