Today is World Drowning Prevention Day

World Drowning Prevention Day has been announced through UN General Assembly Resolution A/RES/75/273 in April 2021 and is going to be held annually on July 25.

The first World Drowning Prevention Day, observed this year, emphasizes the tragic impact drowning has on families and communities and calls for attention toward life-saving solutions that can prevent drowning. Drowning is one of the top ten causes of death among children and youth 1-24 years of age. “Anyone can drown, no one should.”

Ahead of World Drowning Prevention Day, the World Health Organization (WHO) released the “WHO Guideline on the prevention of drowning through provision of day-care and basic swimming and water safety skills”. The guideline focuses on providing day-care for children below 6 years of age and providing basic swimming skills as well as training about water safety to children aged 6 years and above… (WHO)
