The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention had issued guidance in May that removed restrictions regarding wearing masks for vaccinated individuals. However, as COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations rise across the country, mask mandates are again being considered.

Former US Surgeon General Dr. Jerome Adams, said that the CDCs decision was putting trust in the people of America to do what is right, but people started going out and removing their mask, irrespective of their vaccination status. He added that the CDC gave the best advice at the time, but now, the Delta variant has changed the scenario.

While the guidance on mask wearing from the CDC remains unchanged, the agency’s Director Rochelle Walensky said that localities may make their own call.
