India records 39,742 fresh COVID-19 cases in a day

India registered 39,742 new COVID-19 cases, according to the Union Health Ministry data on Sunday, with the total number of cases standing at 3,13,71,901. Overall, 535 deaths were added in a day, taking the toll to 4,20,551 fatalities.

The active cases in the country have come down to 4,08,212 and constitute 1.30% of the total infections. The nationwide COVID-19 recovery rate stood at 97.36%, indicated the updated data. The daily positivity rate stood at 2.31%, and has been below 3% for 34 days in a row, stated the health ministry data. The weekly positivity rate has been recorded at 2.24%.
