Doctors at the Erragada Chest Hospital, Hyderabad protested after a colleague was attacked by a COVID-19 patient′s relatives.

The doctor examined the patient and asked his attendants if he had taken his blood pressure medicine. At this the patient’s relative got furious and said that it was the doctor’s job, not theirs and went on to hit the doctor, said Dr Pranay, a post graduate resident doctor.

The doctor′s mask was reportedly torn by the patient’s attendants and they allegedly slapped and kicked the doctor on the abdomen in the COVID ward. Other staff members present in the ward rescued the doctor and brought him out of the ward, said Dr Pranay.

Dr Pranay said that such things have happened a lot of times and every time they come out in protest, the issue gets diluted. He said that they had been asking for security from the governments but they have not got it.

The doctors have spoken to the administration and they are waiting for a confirmation whether an institutional FIR has been filed against the patient′s relatives or not. Dr Pranay requested people to behave rationally while in a hospital as a doctor does everything possible.

The doctors at the protest held placards with messages that read "Zero Tolerance against violence" and "Save the Saviour".
