The Delta variant of coronavirus may result in more severe illness compared to all other versions of the virus and may spread like chickenpox, stated US media reports citing an internal document from the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

The document carries unpublished data which suggest that fully vaccinated individuals might spread the Delta variant at the same rate as unvaccinated people, revealed the reports. CDC Director, Dr Rochelle P Walensky, had endorsed on Tuesday that vaccinated individuals having breakthrough infections with the Delta variant have as much virus in their nose and throat as those who are not vaccinated and may spread it just as easily. The document stated that Delta variant is more contagious than the MERS, SARS, Ebola, the common cold, the seasonal flu and smallpox viruses, and is as transmissible as chickenpox… (NDTV – PTI, July 30, 2021)
