India's 7-day average of COVID-19 cases surpasses 40,000

Kerala registered a slight decline in new COVID-19 cases on Friday while the figure increased in Tamil Nadu for the second day in a row. The country’s daily case count showed a marginal decline but continued to be over 41,000 for the fourth straight day.

India recorded a total of 41,454 new COVID-19 cases on Friday, compared to 44,681 on the previous day. But this Friday’s count was higher than that reported last Friday, pointing to a rising trend in infections. The seven-day rolling average of daily cases topped the 40,000 mark on Friday after having dropped below that mark on 13th July. The average had declined to 37,680 on July 25 before it rose to 40,246 on Friday. 

The positivity rate in Kerala continued to increase at 13.6% on Friday while cases have also been increasing in Tamil Nadu… (ET Healthworld – TNN, July 31, 2021)
