WHO Says Delta Variant has Fueled Fourth Wave in Middle East

According to the World Health Organization, the Delta variant of coronavirus has driven a spike in COVID-19 outbreaks which has triggered a fourth wave in the Middle East, where vaccination rates continue to be low.

The agency stated that the variant has been detected in 15 out of the 22 countries and territories in the region. It said in a statement that the circulation of the Delta variant is driving an increase in COVID-19 cases and deaths in several countries in WHO′s Eastern Mediterranean Region. Ahmed al-Mandhari, director of WHO′s Eastern Mediterranean region, stated that most new cases and hospitalizations are among people who have not been vaccinated, adding that the region is seeing the fourth wave of COVID-19… (NDTV – AFP, July 30, 2021)
