Mass COVID-19 testing for millions of people has been rolled out in Chinese cities and new travel restrictions have been imposed as health authorities fight to curb the most extensive COVID-19 outbreak in months.

On Sunday, the country recorded 75 fresh cases with 53 local transmissions. A cluster has been linked to an airport, which has reportedly spread to more than 20 cities and over a dozen provinces. 

The highly transmissible Delta variant broke out at Nanjing airport in eastern Jiangsu province in the month of July. Three rounds of testing have been conducted in the city on around 9.2 million residents while thousands of people are under lockdown in a bid to control the outbreak which has been attributed to the Delta variant and the peak tourist season… (NDTV – AFP, August 1, 2021)
