After 11 weeks of fall, COVID-19 cases surge by 7.5% in India

There has been a week-on-week increase in new COVID cases for the first time in 12 weeks in India, since the second wave peaked in early May. This could be an early sign of the next spike. 

The spike at present is largely being registered in Kerala and to a lesser extent in Karnataka and Tamil Nadu. The country reported a little more than 2.86 lakh fresh cases in the week that ended Sunday (July 26-August 1). This translates to a 7.5% increase from the previous week’s figure of 2.66 lakh. Weekly cases have shown an increase for the first time since May 3-9, the peak of the second wave in the country. Kerala reported around 1.4 lakh cases in the current week, and accounted for around half of all new cases in the country over the past seven days… (ET Healthworld – TNN, August 2, 2021)
