Vulvovaginal candidiasis (VVC) is the foremost common causes of vulvovaginal itching and discharge. It is an infection of the vestibulum and estrogenised vagina which may also reach the outer sides of the labium, the labium, the intercrural region and therefore the perineal region.

We are presenting a case of a 24-year-old primi gravida with whitish vaginal discharge, burning sensation in the vagina and vulva alongside itchy rash, at 21 weeks of gestation. A thorough history showed that she had practised similar indications in the past. Candida albicans overgrowth confirmed by wet base of vaginal swab. The woman was analyzed with vulvovaginal candidiasis.

Ciclopirox olamine (CPO) has been found to be effective in improving symptoms of VCC triggered due to C. albicans colonization and is safe for use in pregnant women, with skin and mucocutaneous fungal infections.

The patient was treated with 2% CPO cream. Her symptoms reduced within 7 days of this treatment. Continuous application for next 10-14 days prohibited the re-emergence of the infection.

CPO is used for treating skin and mucocutaneous fungal infections, such as dermatophytosis and vulvovaginal candidiasis. It is a pregnancy category B drug and has shown safety when used in pregnant women.

CPO is a stimulating microbicide with a long history of established safety in clinical use as a vaginal and skin product with anti-infective properties.
