As around 600 junior doctors and interns went on a strike at the SSG hospital in Vadodara, the management of the Baroda Medical College issued a notice to them to vacate their hostel rooms immediately.

The junior resident doctors have been on strike, while attending to only emergency duties, urging the authorities to accept their demands that have been pending for long. However, on Friday, they decided to stop attending to emergencies as well. The doctors have been asking for implementing the Seventh Pay Commission and also demand the government to fulfil the promise of considering one day of COVID-19 duty as equivalent to two days of regular duty over the bond period. The doctors also seek regular appointments at the hospital following the bond period, instead of postings in rural areas. The resident doctors claim that the government has not considered any of their demands.

Dr Tanuja Javdekar, Dean of Baroda Medical College, has issued notices to 450 junior residents and 150 interns to vacate the hostel rooms immediately. The management has decided to take strict disciplinary action against the doctors for abandoning emergency duties as well.

Paramedical and other clinical staff have been transferred to SSG hospital as the strike has affected work. Regarding rural postings, Javdekar said, that they have not been assigned yet and it can be discussed with those who have served in a rural posting.
