Probable case of Ebola-like Marburg virus reported in Guinea

Guinea has detected a probable case of Marburg virus, stated the health ministry on Friday.

The case of Marburg was confirmed by two laboratories in Guinea and a sample was sent to Senegal for further validation, reported the National Agency of Health Safety (ANSS) in a statement. If it gets confirmed, this would be the first case of Marburg in West Africa. Twelve major outbreaks of Marburg have occurred since 1967, predominantly in the south and east of Africa and in Europe. Scientists in Sierra Leone had identified live bats infected with Marburg back in 2018, but there were no cases in humans.
