Maharashtra has recorded 45 cases of Delta plus variant of the coronavirus till August 8, stated the state health department on Sunday.

Jalgaon district tops the list with 13 cases, followed by Ratnagiri with 11 cases, Mumbai with 6, Thane with 5 and Pune with 3 cases. The department said that 80% of the samples sent for genome sequencing came out positive for the Delta Plus variant. 

Chief Minister of the state, Uddhav Thackeray, addressed the public saying that COVID-19 is still here. He added that the first and second waves have gone but festivals are approaching and everyone should follow COVID protocols. He further stated that the districts of Pune, Ahmednagar, Solapur, Sangli, Satara, Sindhudarg, and Ratnagiri need to be careful.

The state recorded 5,508 new COVID-19 infections and 151 deaths on Sunday, taking the case tally to 63,53,328 and death toll to 13,39,96… (NDTV, August 9, 2021)
