Youth depression and anxiety increased two-fold during pandemic

A new meta-analysis has shown that during the pandemic, depression and anxiety in youth increased two-fold in comparison with the pre-pandemic levels. 

The analysis revealed that 1 in 4 adolescents worldwide are having clinically increased depression symptoms, and 1 in 5 youth are suffering from clinically elevated anxiety symptoms. The research suggests that the COVID-19 pandemic has led to a global mental health crisis among the youth. This meta-analysis included 29 studies that had over 80,000 participants, ranging in age from 4 to 17. The studies included in the analysis were conducted in East Asia, Europe, North America, the Middle East, and Central and South America.
