On Tuesday, Britain recorded 146 new deaths within 28 days of a positive COVID-19 test. This represents the highest daily death toll since March 12.

The number of fresh COVID-19 cases reported on Tuesday was 23,510, down from 25,161 on Monday. This is lower than half the peak of 54,674 cases reported on July 17. However, the cases have started to rise again, with 196,047 people infected with COVID-19 in the past week. This figure is 7% higher than the week before and also represents the highest rolling 7-day total in this month. Around 622 deaths due to COVID-19 were reported in the past seven days, which is 15% higher than the week before.
