First Death from Delta Plus in Mumbai

Mumbai registered the first death due to the Delta Plus variant of the coronavirus after a 63-year-old woman died on July 27 after testing positive on July 21. 

The woman had several comorbidities, including diabetes. This is Maharashtra′s second death from the Delta Plus variant. An 80-year-old woman from Ratnagiri had died last month. The woman from Mumbai had received both doses of a COVID-19 vaccine and was among the seven patients in the city whose reports had come out to be positive for the Delta Plus variant. The genome sequencing results from the womans samples were obtained on Wednesday. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation started contacting the seven patients after the results were received from the state health department.

Two close contacts of the woman have also tested positive for the Delta Plus variant. She was reported not to have any travel history.    (NDTV, August 13, 2021)
