US could soon witness 200,000 daily new COVID-19 cases, cautions NIH director

The director of the National Institutes of Health anticipates that the US could soon witness over 200,000 daily fresh COVID-19 cases as the Delta variant is spreading fast, especially among the unvaccinated.

Dr. Francis Collins said that around 90 million people are still not vaccinated. As of Saturday, the country recorded an average of around 129,000 daily new infections over the past 7 days. The number has been increasing every day since July 5, as per Johns Hopkins University data. The US last recorded an average of more than 200,000 cases in a day in the month of January, which was prior to the wide availability of COVID-19 vaccines… (CNN, August 16, 2021)
