India reported less than 2.6 lakh COVID-19 cases in the week from August 9-15, which is the lowest tally of weekly infections in the country in five months since mid-March. It translates to a decline of 6.7% from the previous week.

However, despite the drop, the weekly cases continued to be between 2.5 lakh and 3 lakh over the past six weeks. Over this duration, cases have increased in certain parts of the country, such as Kerala, where there has been a huge spike. There have been minor surges in Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Himachal Pradesh.

The country registered 2,55,819 new COVID-19 cases in the week ending Sunday. This represents the lowest weekly tally since 1,55,912 cases were reported in the week from March 8-14… (ET Healthworld – TNN, August 16, 2021)
