Thirteen cases of dengue reported in a week in Delhi

Cases of vector-borne diseases increased in Delhi last week as the three municipal corporations reported seven cases of dengue. A total of 13 cases were recorded in the entire city. The national capital also recorded 8 cases of chikungunya and malaria each.

As of August 14, close to 68 cases of dengue, 32 of malaria and 21 cases of chikungunya have been recorded in Delhi, stated a report by South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC). 

A corporation official stated that the cases surged last week due to waterlogging and breeding of mosquitoes, adding that residents must check mosquito breeding at their terrace, green areas and other places.

The latest report, including data from all the three municipal corporations, revealed that among the 1.5 crore households inspected, breeding was noted in around 72,393 houses. Legal notices were issued in 63,427 cases and 7,832 prosecutions have been done thus far.

An official said that they intend to start the mosquito terminator train from August 27 that will cover all areas, jhuggis next to the railway track.
