R-value in India falls to below 1

After it crossed the value of 1 in the first week of August, the R number has shown a steady drop, suggest researchers at the Institute of Mathematical Sciences, Chennai.

Sitbara Sinha, leading the research, stated that the country’s R-value has dropped to around 0.9. The R number is an indication of how rapidly the pandemic is spreading. The R-value of Kerala, where the number of active cases is the highest in the country, is now below 1 after a span of seven months. States in the North East also appear to have emerged out of the second wave, stated Sinha.

The R-value from August 14-16 stood at 0.89. The R-value for Maharashtra also stood at 0.89. Himachal Pradesh; however, still has an R value above 1. Tamil Nadu and Uttarakhand also have R-value close to 1… (ET Healthworld – PTI, August 19, 2021)
