COVID-19 booster shots not needed for now, says WHO

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), the current data does not suggest that COVID-19 booster doses are required at present. The agency further stated that the most vulnerable individuals across the globe should be fully vaccinated before the affluent nations start giving a booster jab.

WHO chief scientist Soumya Swaminathan said at a news conference, “We believe clearly that the data today does not indicate that boosters are needed.” She added that additional research was required. WHO senior adviser Bruce Aylward stated that while there are enough vaccines available across the world, they are not reaching the right places and in the right order. He added that two doses of a COVID-19 vaccine should first be administered to the most vulnerable people before booster doses are given to those who are fully-vaccinated… (Reuters, August 18, 2021)
