87,000 COVID Infections Reported in India after 2nd Vaccine Dose

More than 87,000 individuals in India have been reported to be COVID-positive after receiving the second dose of vaccination. Around 46% of these are from Kerala, stated top Health Ministry sources.

Kerala registered around 80,000 COVID-19 cases following the first vaccine dose, while 40,000 infections were recorded after the second dose, revealed sources. Around 200 samples of breakthrough infections have been subjected to genomic sequencing analysis but no mutation or variant could be detected. Breakthrough cases have also been registered in Wayanad, which has a 100% vaccination rate.

The central government is keeping a close eye on Kerala’s neighboring states of Karnataka and Tamil Nadu, and efforts are being made to carry out genome sequencing in these states… (NDTV, August 19, 2021)
