New Zealand records 21 fresh local COVID-19 cases

New Zealand on Saturday reported 21 new cases of COVID-19. Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern has warned that the numbers will increase in the coming few days and urged people to follow the lockdown rules.

The COVID-19 cases in the community outbreak of the Delta variant now stand at 51. Among the 21 new infections, 18 have been reported in Auckland, and 3 in the capital, Wellington. The PM had extended the lockdown on Friday until midnight on Tuesday as the outbreak spread beyond the two major cities. Speaking about an outbreak in Australia, the PM stated that a thing to learn from New South Wales is that the virus can still spread during lockdown.
