Hundreds of people placed in quarantine in Shanghai after COVID cases reported in airport workers

Shanghai has placed hundreds of people in quarantine in a bid to check a new COVID-19 outbreak in the city as cases were detected in cargo workers at its airport, stated the municipal government.

Around 120 individuals, considered to be close contacts of the five infected workers at Pudong Airport have been placed into quarantine, besides hundreds others who are secondary contacts. Two of the cargo workers, a Chinese national and an Ethiopian national, were among the four locally transmitted cases in mainland China’s count of 20 fresh confirmed infections on August 20. The other two local cases were identified in Jiangsu and Hubei provinces. Later on Saturday, Shanghai officials stated that they had detected three more confirmed cases in cargo workers at Pudong Airport. 

On August 20, China also registered 20 fresh asymptomatic COVID-19 cases… (Reuters, August 21, 2021)
