6,00,000 Daily COVID-19 Cases if India Does not Vaccinate More People, Says Study

India may go on to register 6,00,000 new COVID-19 cases a day if it does not accelerate the vaccination drive and avoid a third COVID wave, suggests a new study.

The National Institute of Disaster Management has predicted a spike in infections in October. Daily new cases could be around 2,00,000 if the plan of 10-million-a-day vaccination is executed, mentioned the report, quoting a study by Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay Energy University and Nirma University. The NIDM has advised organization of hospital beds and vaccination of the vulnerable in order to fend off the devastation that was witnessed during the second wave.

India has fully vaccinated only 9% of its population thus far. The study acknowledged the fact that there is a dearth of scientific evidence that a possible third wave may affect kids. However, it suggested that children with serious underlying health conditions be vaccinated… (NDTV – Bloomberg, August 23, 2021)
