The U.S. Food and Drug Administration granted full approval to the Pfizer/BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine on Monday. The vaccine has become the first to secure such FDA authorization. 

The vaccine has now received full approval for use in individuals aged 16 years and above on the basis of updated data from the clinical trial and manufacturing review. Public health officials are hopeful that the approval will convince unvaccinated individuals that the vaccine is safe and effective. President Joe Biden called it a significant moment in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic. He urged that more private businesses should require their employees to be vaccinated.
