Chennai: Notices have been issued to 231 hospitals by the Greater Chennai Corporation, as the hospitals failed to share data of patients treated for flu-like symptoms and COVID-19 patient discharges.

In a meeting convened on August 13, the corporation commissioner Gagandeep Singh Bedi had asked all private hospitals to share data on patients with influenza like illness (ILI) as well as COVID-19 patients. Bedi stated that they had shared the e-mail ID and the format in which the data had to be shared daily. However, they havent been receiving it.

Assistant city health officer, Mahalakshmi, stated that several patients being treated for COVID-19 are discharged within 3-4 days and are required to stay in home isolation following that. However, some cases have been seen recently where discharged patients were sources of new infections because they failed to follow the isolation protocols. Additionally, inspections have shown that some hospitals did not disinfect their premises regularly.

An official said that data on fever cases will enable tracing of contacts and help them with focused testing to avert clusters.
