Herbal Medicine for the Treatment of COVID-19

Aim:

A systematic review and meta-analysis determined the effectiveness and adverse events of herbal medicines for the treatment of COVID-19. 

Methods: 

  • The databases (12) were searched for randomized controlled trials (RCTs) and quasi-RCTs that evaluated the effects of herbal medicines for the treatment of COVID-19.
  • 2 reviewers were involved in the study selection and data extraction independently. 

Results:

Conclusion:
  • The review demonstrated the significant effects of combined therapy of herbal medicine with Western medicine, thus revealing the potential role of herbal medicine in treating COVID-19. 
  • It emphasized the need for more high-quality RCTs to confirm the effectiveness and adverse events of herbal medicine in the treatment of COVID-19.
