COVID-19 hospitalizations in U.S. hit eight-month high

On Thursday, the figures for COVID-19 patients admitted to hospitals in the U.S. crossed 100,000. These numbers are the highest in eight months, stated the Department of Health and Human Services.

The number of hospitalizations has increased more than two-fold over the past month. During the past week, on average, over 500 COVID-19 patients were admitted to hospitals every hour, reveal data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Peak hospitalizations were seen in the country on January 6 when there were 132,051 COVID patients in hospitals, as per a Reuters tally. With the vaccination campaign, hospitalizations started coming down and reached 13,843 on June 28. However, admissions increased in July as the Delta variant dominated.
