Cryotherapy May Help in Chronic Rhinitis

According to a new study, freezing the posterior nasal nerve could diminish the symptoms of chronic rhinitis.

In a study published in International Forum of Allergy & Rhinology, researchers found cryotherapy to be more efficacious than a sham procedure for improving the symptoms that the patients had reported on questionnaires. Researchers enroled 133 patients with chronic rhinitis at 12 centers in the United States. Around 43% of these had allergic rhinitis and 94% had experience their symptoms for over 2 years. Sixty eight patients were randomized to receive treatment with the cryotherapy device while 65 were randomized to a sham procedure. After 90 days, 73.4% of the patients who received cryotherapy treatment were found to report at least a 30% reduction in their symptoms on the reflective Total Nasal Symptom Score (rTNSS), in comparison with 36.5% of patients who received the sham treatment, with a statistically significant difference… (Medscape)
