Side effects of Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine in 12-15-year-olds mild to moderate

According to a study published in Archives of Disease in Childhood, the side effects of Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine in children aged 12-15 years at high risk of complications from the infection seem to be mild to moderate and resolve soon.

Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation (JCVI), the vaccine advisory group in UK, had advised that children 12 years of age and above with severe neurological disabilities must be given the COVID-19 vaccine. Considering the unknown side effects of vaccination in this vulnerable group of patients, researchers asked the parents of 27 of these children to report any side effects of subsequent COVID-19 vaccinations. The children were aged 12 to 15 years and three were hospital inpatients.

Eight events were reported in 6 children following the first dose, and all resolved within 72 hours. These included mild rash, diarrhea, headache, neck pain, presumed sore throat, difficulty sleeping, and low blood glucose. Further 8 events were reported in 5 children following the second dose, including diarrhea, vomiting, swelling in the armpit and blisters around the mouth. The side effects were mild to moderate, except for one child who had severe fatigue and discomfort, with increased agitation… (NDTV – ANI, August 27, 2021)
