A new study published in the European Journal of Obstetrics, Gynecology, and Reproductive Biology investigated the effect of laparoscopic ovarian drilling (LOD) on homocysteine levels and clinical outcomes in women with Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS). This study recruited 50 PCOS subjects who were admitted for laparoscopic ovarian drilling (LOD). Serum homocysteine levels were estimated in all patients before and after LOD. The findings revealed that LOD reduces homocysteine levels, improves the rate of ovulation as well as clinical pregnancy in PCOS. Furthermore, on subgroup analysis, LOD significantly reduced homocysteine levels in ovulatory and conceived groups. While the reduction was more marked in the conceived group than in the non-conceived group. Thus, it was inferred that LOD reduces homocysteine levels and improves clinical outcome in PCOS.
