Australia registers record COVID cases

Australia registered a record high of 1,126 COVID-19 cases on Saturday, largely driven by New South Wales, which has become the epicenter of the current outbreak triggered by the Delta variant.

The country’s most populous state, New South Wales, recorded 1,035 locally transmitted COVID-19 infections. Victoria registered 64 cases, mostly in the capital Melbourne. Over half of Australians have been in lockdowns as officials in Sydney and Melbourne, and the capital Canberra struggle to end the outbreak.
