The goal of a new study published in JMIR Dermatology was to assess teledermatology experiences of new and existing patients.

This was a cross-sectional study of teledermatology patients—who were assessed during the COVID-19 pandemic at a major medical center from May-June, 2020.

Overall, 184 patients completed the survey. A majority of the patients (86.4%) reported positive overall satisfaction and experiences with teledermatology. In fact, new patients had significantly higher Likert scores for overall satisfaction with teledermatology than the follow-up patients. In addition, satisfaction with teledermatology did not significantly differ based on the patient’s age, race and ethnicity; education level; residence; or insurance status.

More patients who had prior telehealth experience were willing to use telehealth in the future.

Therefore, it was inferred that teledermatology expansion has achieved high levels of patient satisfaction during the COVID-19 pandemic.
