The American Medical Association (AMA), American Pharmacists Association (APhA), and American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP) have issued a joint statement calling for an end to the use of ivermectin for the prevention or treatment of COVID-19 outside of a clinical trial.

The organizations said in the statement that the use of ivermectin for the prevention and treatment of COVID-19 has been found to be harmful to the patients. They expressed concern over the reports of outpatient prescribing for and dispensing of ivermectin rising by about 24-fold since prior to the pandemic.
