A police constable in Manipur has been suspended while disciplinary action was taken against another on Friday after they misbehaved with a doctor and allegedly one of them assaulted him.

The incident took place in front of Chief Minister’s residence on Thursday around 8pm at Luwangsangbam in Imphal East district. Constable Colling Kshetrimayum and his colleague were on guard duty there.

N Herojit Singh, Imphal East district SP, has suspended the constable after a complaint from Dr K Soreingam. The doctor, in his complaint, stated that he was going back home after picking up his wife, Dr K Lumthing R V, from the CMC Hospital. The two officers stopped the doctor couple’s car and asked them for a reason for being out during the night curfew.

In spite of telling the cops that he is a doctor, Dr Soreingam alleged that one of the two cops assaulted him with his rifle stock, which left him unconscious for minutes. The doctor had also shown his and his wife’s ID cards. The doctor further alleged that the policemen were under the influence of alcohol.

The SP stated that it has been found that only Colling was directly involved in the assault. The Imphal chapter of Indian Medical Association (IMA) has condemned the attack and has issued a statement which states that the cops involved in this incident are not fit to serve people and their service must be terminated.
