Over 230 journals warn global warming could be disastrous for health

Climate crisis is already adversely affecting human health, and the effects could be disastrous and irreversible unless governments take much more steps to address global warming, stated the editors of over 230 medical journals in a joint editorial.

The editorial highlights the known association between climate crisis and the several adverse health impacts over the past 2 decades. These include a rise in heat deaths, dehydration, loss of kidney function, skin cancer, tropical infections, problems related to mental health, pregnancy complications, allergies, heart and lung disease, and deaths due to them. It cautioned that a rise in global average temperatures of 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels and the loss of biodiversity could be disastrous to health and the effects would be irreversible… (CNN, September 6, 2021)
