12-year-old child dies of Nipah virus in Kerala

A 12-year-old boy, detected with Nipah virus infection, died on Sunday in Kerala. The boy was from Kozhikode.

He had recently recovered from COVID-19 and had to be taken to the hospital after his fever did not subside. He was admitted at the Kozhikode Medical College but was later shifted to a private hospital on September 1. Northern districts of Malappuram, Kozhikode, and Kannur have been put on high alert.

State Health Minister Veena George stated that there was no need to panic, adding that none of the deceased boy’s immediate family or neighbors has shown any symptoms. Five immediate relatives of the boy and 12 others who had come in contact with him are currently under observation… (ET Healthworld – IANS, September 6, 2021)
