Liver diseases of structural and genetic aetiologies are frequently reported in Neonates, which may possess significant health implications demanding long-term specialist treatment even liver transplantation. The most common presenting symptom remains Jaundice.

It is the prime requisite of healthcare professionals to differentiate neonatal liver disease from benign diagnoses like physiological jaundice. A Persistent (>2 weeks) conjugated jaundice and Severe unconjugated jaundice (requiring prolonged phototherapy) should be thoroughly and promptly investigated.

The advancements in genomics have aided in precisely diagnosing patients with neonatal liver disease.
