A 32-year-old doctor, Sarla Salve, working in a government hospital, was allegedly hammered and stabbed to death at her Pune residence on Monday.

Police stated that the doctor was found lying in a pool of blood in her flat in Borhadewadi, Moshi. She was rushed to the Pimpri Municipal Corporation’s YCM Hospital, where doctors declared her dead.

The victim’s husband, Vijaykumar Salve, aged 35, works as a Talathi in Pune. A senior police officer of the Bhosari police station stated that they found a note beside the victim’s body which was allegedly written by her husband. The note stated that she was not cooperating with him which made him take the drastic step of killing her, said the officer.

During the investigations, it was found that the couple had got married in 2019. The officer said that theirs was a love marriage and the flat where Dr Sarla Salve’s body was found was recently bought by them.

The police officer stated that on Monday, some common friends of the couple informed the police as they suspected some foul play after they noted that both their mobile phones were switched off. The police reached their flat to enquire and saw blood flowing out of the flat. They broke open the door and found the doctor lying in a pool of blood.

The Bhosari MIDC police officer stated that the couple’s friends revealed that soon after their marriage, they started fighting with each other on numerous issues. Several times, the accused physically tortured the doctor. The officer added that raids are being conducted to catch the accused. An FIR has been lodged against Vijaykumar under various Indian Penal Code (IPC) sections.
