Suspected black fever case detected in Kerala

THRISSUR: A suspected case of kala-azar, or visceral leishmaniasis or black fever, has been identified in the Vellikulangara area in Thrissur district in Kerala.

District medical officer (DMO), Dr K J Reena, said that the patient has tested positive at the initial level and additional investigations, including bone marrow tests and blood tests, need to be done to confirm the disease.

The patient, a 77-year-old man, had tested positive for kala-azar in 2019 also. Special medical teams are being sent to Vellikulangara to control the disease.
