South Africa approves Pfizer COVID jab for children 12 and above

The South African Health Products Authority (SAPHRA) has approved Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine for use in children 12 years of age and above.

The health regulator stated that the decision followed a review of updated safety and efficacy data submitted in March. South Africa′s vaccination campaign has gained pace in recent months and slightly more than 12% of its population has been vaccinated. Health insurers have stated that vaccine hesitancy is a major factor that is affecting the vaccination campaign and the government is making efforts to convince people to get vaccinated. The country has around 28% of the people under the age of 15 years… (Reuters, September 11, 2021)
