WHO Approval for Covaxin Likely by September-End: Niti Aayog

Dr VK Paul, chairman of the National Expert Committee on Vaccine Administration, has stated that the approval from the World Health Organization for emergency use of Covaxin is likely to come before the end of September.

The approval will mean that the vaccine is safe for use in other countries and will allow individuals receiving this vaccine to travel abroad without the need for quarantine. Bharat Biotech’s dossier has been under review by experts for consideration since July. Dr Paul, a member of Niti Aayog as well, stated that the WHO must be given time to make a decision based on science and it is expected that the decisions will be taken soon. He added that data sharing and data evaluation are going on through multiple reviews and we are nearing a decision point… (NDTV, September 14, 2021)
