Indian children with comorbidities aged 12 to 17 may get vaccine by October-November

Children in India who have underlying health conditions may be able to receive a COVID-19 vaccine by October-November. 

Official sources have stated that children 12 to 17 years of age who have comorbidities, such as heart disease, obesity or immune disorders, will be eligible to get vaccinated by then. Zydus Cadila’s ZyCov-D is the only vaccine that has received emergency approval for use in children. Supplies of the vaccine are expected to begin next month. The company will likely supply around 30 lakh vaccines in the first batch and it will then be raised up to one crore each time. The government has stated that the company will supply 4-5 crore doses by the month of December.

Nearly 20-30 lakh children with comorbidities will be eligible for this vaccine. Meanwhile, Covaxin is also undergoing trials for use in children. Once it receives emergency approval, children over 2 years of age will be able to receive that vaccine… (ET Healthworld – ET Online, September 14, 2021)
