Moderna Vaccine Data in Favor of Booster Dose after 8 Months

Moderna has released new data stating that the data support the use of COVID-19 booster doses. It suggests that individuals who received a first dose of their vaccine a median of 13 months ago have a greater likelihood of having a breakthrough infection compared to those who received a first jab a median of 8 months ago.

The data comes from the ongoing Phase 3 COVE clinical trial. In the initial stage, people were randomized to receive the company′s mRNA vaccine or placebo. The trial participants who were vaccinated more recently were found to have a 36% lesser likelihood of having a breakthrough infection, revealed an analysis of the open-label extension of the study during which placebo participants could get vaccinated as well. There were 88 breakthrough cases of COVID-19 among 11,431 participants who were vaccinated between December 2020 and March 2021, translating to 49 cases per 1000 person-years. On the other hand, 162 breakthrough cases occurred among 14,746 individuals vaccinated between July and October last year, which amounts to 77.1 cases per 1000 person-years… (Medscape)
