Just 0.35% of fully vaccinated people in Mumbai got COVID infection, says report

Only about 0.35% of fully vaccinated people in Mumabi, which is 350 out of every 1 lakh individuals, were reported to have suffered breakthrough COVID-19 infection, according to the BMC.

BMC additional municipal commissioner, Suresh Kakani, said that the BMC report indicates that only a small fraction of those vaccinated get affected. Therefore, there seems to be no reason for vaccine hesitancy. The report was put together last month when the number of fully vaccinated individuals was 25.39 lakh. Overall, 9,001 of these contracted COVID-19 infection. A doctor who is associated with the BMC vaccination program said that an updated report, currently being finalized, suggested that breakthrough infections are around 0.3% only. People aged above 60 years appear to be more prone to get the infection despite vaccination. A total of 4,479 out of 7.58 lakh senior citizens (0.59%) got COVID, while only 1,835 out of 6.94 lakh between 18 and 44 years of age were affected… (ET Healthworld – TNN, September 16, 2021)
