A new study published in Dove Medical Press discussed that aging affects every anatomical layer of the face. The knowledge of these transformations has guided facial rejuvenation strategies with HA fillers.

The authors stated that understanding the age-related changes in the anatomical facial layers, including their time of onset, can provide much more targeted and refined HA filler treatments. Recent years have seen a distinct shift towards fillers’ use, rather than previously common skin-lifting procedures.

This article informed that anatomical facial layers can be selectively targeted by HA fillers for more refined and predictable outcomes. An extensive range of HA filler variants is now available – each type is optimized and designed to be injected into specific tissue planes.

The article summarized that knowledge of predictable aging-related changes in different tissue layers guides the optimum filler choice. Furthermore, knowing individual characteristics of numerous HA-based products is essential for their precise and effective placement and for minimizing the risk of adverse events.
