Phototherapy is one of the treatment options for acne vulgaris.

A recent study aimed to assess the effect of near-infrared low-level laser therapy on acne lesions.

This prospective study included 27 women, 18-45 years of age, with mild-to-severe acne. All participants underwent a series of six treatments—with a 785 nm low-level laser with the power density 80mW/cm2—every two weeks.

The results showed significant improvements in acne lesions, with respect to the non-inflammatory and inflammatory lesion counts. Additionally, a significant decrease in skin sebum excretion was noted after the treatment completion. There were no adverse effects.

Therefore, series of six phototherapy sessions using a near-infrared low-level laser is a safe and effective non-invasive modality in the management of acne vulgaris.
